Acrylic cold paint road marking applied with a line striping machine on an internal road in Qatar

Overview

Cold paint marking that reopens the road fast

Acrylic road marking in Qatar is the economical, quick-turnaround option for roads and car parks that do not carry highway traffic: internal roads, compounds, industrial yards, school and mall car parks, cycle lanes and temporary layouts. UniGulf Traffic applies water-based acrylic road paint by airless spray line striper with drop-on glass beads, so the line is clean-edged, reflective and dry to traffic in minutes — at a fraction of the cost of hot-applied material.

Modern water-based acrylic road paints are low-odour and low-VOC, which matters in basements, covered car parks and occupied compounds. They bond well to asphalt, concrete and interlock paving, can be applied at thinner film builds than thermoplastic, and are easy to refresh on a maintenance cycle without removal. The trade-off is service life: on a busy road, paint wears faster than thermoplastic, which is why we recommend it where traffic is light or where quick reopening and budget matter more than a multi-year interval.

Our striping machines lay 100–150 mm lines at consistent width and film thickness, with bead dispensers mounted behind the gun so reflectivity is applied while the paint is wet. Symbols, arrows and bay numbers are applied with stencils.

What we do

Acrylic road marking scope

Cold-applied road paint for every marking a private road, compound or car park needs:

Materials & specification

Materials, film thickness and drying

We use water-based acrylic road marking paints manufactured for hot-climate use, applied by airless spray at a wet film of roughly 300–400 microns (about 0.3–0.4 mm) with glass beads dropped on while the surface is wet. Solvent-based chlorinated rubber or alkyd paints are available where a specification calls for them, but water-based acrylic is our default for indoor and low-odour work.

Drying to touch takes 10–30 minutes depending on temperature and humidity, and traffic can normally run within an hour. Because the film is thin, the line is only as good as the surface under it: we sweep and blow the surface clean, treat oil patches in car parks and, on smooth power-floated concrete, apply a primer or lightly abrade so the paint keys in.

Where it is used

Where acrylic cold paint makes sense

Acrylic paint is the right choice wherever traffic is moderate and the priority is cost, speed and a clean finish: residential compounds, private and industrial internal roads, office and mall car parks, school drop-off zones, hospital and hotel parking, cycle lanes and temporary layouts during construction. It is also the practical option for maintenance re-marking of existing painted layouts. Where the road carries heavy or fast traffic, thermoplastic will outlast it several times over; where coloured or anti-skid surfacing is required, use MMA cold plastic. For indoor floors that also need protection, see epoxy flooring.

How we work

Our road marking process — survey to handover

01

Site visit & survey

An engineer measures the site, checks the surface condition, confirms the layout against your drawings or the QCS/Ashghal standard and agrees access, traffic management and working hours.

02

Setup & surface preparation

Traffic control is placed, old or faded lines are removed if required, and the surface is cleaned, dried and primed where the material specification calls for it.

03

Application

Markings are set out and applied with our own machines — thermoplastic, cold paint or MMA — with glass beads dropped on for retro-reflectivity and thickness checked during the run.

04

Inspection & handover

Dimensions, colour, thickness and reflectivity are checked, snags are closed the same visit, and you receive a handover with material data sheets for your submittal file.

Why UniGulf Traffic

A road marking contractor main contractors can rely on

Own equipment

Thermoplastic pre-heaters and screed applicators, airless spray line stripers, bead dispensers and removal equipment are ours — no waiting on hired plant.

Night-shift & closure windows

Crews are set up for lane closures, night works and airside or live-traffic sites where the marking window is a few hours, not a few days.

Itemised quotations

Every quotation is broken down by line type, length or area, material and mobilisation so QS teams can compare and approve it quickly.

Site conditions & price

Site conditions and what affects the price

Acrylic marking is quoted per linear metre and per bay or symbol. Because the material cost is low, the quotation is driven by set-out time, the number of symbols and stencils, surface preparation and access. A new asphalt car park with a clean drawing is quick; a live mall car park that must be marked in overnight sections, with cars to move and old lines to remove, takes longer. Smooth or dusty concrete, oil contamination and sand build-up all need treatment before painting, otherwise the line peels within weeks.

We also advise on the maintenance cycle. On a busy car park entrance the first coat may need refreshing within a year; bays inside the same car park may last several years. Planning that refresh with us avoids paying for full removal later.

FAQ

Acrylic road marking — FAQ

Questions we get from QS teams, consultants and facility managers. Anything else — call +974 5556 3941.

Acrylic is a cold-applied paint at roughly 0.3–0.4 mm film, dries in minutes and costs less; thermoplastic is a hot-applied material at 2–3 mm that lasts several times longer on busy roads. Paint suits internal roads and car parks; thermoplastic suits highways and main roads.
From several months on a heavily trafficked entrance to a few years on lightly used bays. Surface preparation, bead loading and traffic are the main variables; a planned refresh cycle keeps a car park looking new.
Yes — it is the preferred choice. It is low-odour and low-VOC, so occupied buildings and covered car parks can be marked without fumes, and it bonds to concrete with the right preparation.
Touch-dry in 10–30 minutes and usually trafficable within an hour, depending on temperature and humidity. We mark in sections so a car park stays partly open.
On roads and outdoor car parks, yes, dropped on while the paint is wet for night reflectivity. For indoor decorative markings beads can be omitted.
Yes. Send the clause — for example a BS EN 1871 paint type or a QCS reference — and we quote and supply the matching product with data sheets for submittal.
