Water-blasting · grinding
Safe removal of old, faded or incorrect road markings by high-pressure water-blasting and grinding — without damaging the road surface — ahead of re-marking a car park, changing a lane layout or handing over a resurfaced road.

Overview
Line marking removal in Qatar is the step that separates a professional re-marking job from a confusing one. Painting over old lines leaves ghost markings that drivers still follow, especially at night; blacking them out fails within months. UniGulf Traffic removes thermoplastic, paint and MMA markings with high-pressure water-blasting and mechanical grinding, choosing the method that lifts the material without scarring the asphalt or concrete beneath it, so the surface is clean and ready for the new layout.
Removal is required whenever a layout changes — a car park is re-planned, a lane is added, a junction is remodelled, a temporary diversion ends — and whenever old markings are so worn that the new line would not bond over them. It is also part of most resurfacing handovers, where temporary markings on the new wearing course must come off before the permanent thermoplastic goes down.
We assess each site for material type, thickness, surface condition and the tolerance for surface texture change, then choose water-blasting, grinding or a combination. Debris is contained and collected, and the area is swept and inspected before re-marking begins.

What we do
Removal of every type of marking from asphalt, concrete and coated floors:
Materials & specification
High-pressure water-blasting uses an ultra-high-pressure water jet, typically with vacuum recovery, to lift markings from the surface. It is the gentlest method for asphalt and concrete, leaves minimal scarring, handles thermoplastic and MMA well and is our preferred method on public roads and airport pavements. Grinding and scarifying uses a rotary cutter head to abrade the marking off. It is fast and effective on thick thermoplastic and painted concrete but leaves a visible texture change, so it suits car parks, industrial floors and areas that will be resurfaced or coated afterwards. Shot-blasting is used on concrete decks that will receive an epoxy floor, where a uniform profile is an advantage.
We do not recommend blackout paint as a removal method on public roads: it wears unevenly and the old line reappears as a ghost marking.
| Methods | High-pressure water-blasting with vacuum recovery; rotary grinding / scarifying; shot-blasting for coated decks |
|---|---|
| Materials removed | Thermoplastic, acrylic and solvent paints, MMA cold plastic, coloured surfacing, blackout paint, rubber deposits |
| Surfaces | Asphalt, concrete, interlock (with care), epoxy-coated floors |
| Surface impact | Water-blasting: minimal; grinding: visible texture change; shot-blasting: uniform profile |
| Debris | Contained, vacuumed and disposed of; area swept before re-marking |
| Working | Day or night; within lane closures and traffic management on live roads |
| Re-marking | Same crew can re-mark immediately once the surface is dry |
Where it is used
Highways and junctions being remodelled, resurfaced roads with temporary lines, car parks being re-planned or renumbered, warehouses reorganising racking and lanes, airports removing rubber build-up and obsolete markings, and any site where a contractor has been asked to make good incorrect markings. Removal is normally bundled with the new markings — thermoplastic for roads, bay marking for car parks — so the site is handed back finished in one programme.

How we work
An engineer measures the site, checks the surface condition, confirms the layout against your drawings or the QCS/Ashghal standard and agrees access, traffic management and working hours.
Traffic control is placed, old or faded lines are removed if required, and the surface is cleaned, dried and primed where the material specification calls for it.
Markings are set out and applied with our own machines — thermoplastic, cold paint or MMA — with glass beads dropped on for retro-reflectivity and thickness checked during the run.
Dimensions, colour, thickness and reflectivity are checked, snags are closed the same visit, and you receive a handover with material data sheets for your submittal file.
Why UniGulf Traffic
Thermoplastic pre-heaters and screed applicators, airless spray line stripers, bead dispensers and removal equipment are ours — no waiting on hired plant.
Crews are set up for lane closures, night works and airside or live-traffic sites where the marking window is a few hours, not a few days.
A decade of highways, car parks, airports and industrial sites in Qatar heat, dust and traffic — and the materials that survive it.
Every quotation is broken down by line type, length or area, material and mobilisation so QS teams can compare and approve it quickly.
Site conditions & price
Removal is priced per linear metre of line and per square metre of area, by material and method. Thick thermoplastic takes longer than thin paint; MMA and multiple old layers take longer still. The surface matters: soft or aged asphalt needs a lighter touch and slower passes, while concrete can be ground faster. Access, closure windows and the need to contain water and debris in an occupied basement all add time. Where removal is followed by re-marking, we quote both in one document so the sequencing is clear and the site is not left blank overnight on a live road.
